F is for Fruit Kebabs!

Last week, our letter of the week was Ff.  On Fun Friday, we made fruit kebabs!  We did a great job with sharing the fruit with each other.  These treats were healthy and delicious!

The Lorax week - Planting a tree!

This week we are reading The Lorax by Dr Seuss. We're learning about the importance of trees and that we need to look after our environment. The Lorax speaks for the trees, and he would have been very proud of us today! Mrs Kitchen's husband Scott came in this afternoon and helped us plant a tree - a 'Dr Seuss' tree. It looks fantastic now and is planted in the triangle gardens by the pergola.
Here it is...

Then we went back to our classroom and planted some beautiful, bright flowers in our planter box...

We are very proud of our gardening efforts this afternoon! Thanks Scott!

Green Eggs and Ham

Today was so much fun!  We all dressed in green to have a green eggs and ham day!  Mrs Kitchen made us green eggs and ham and we thought we were not going to like it - but almost all of us loved it, and even had seconds!  Here are some pictures of our day...

Mrs Kitchen also baked us some delicious green egg cookies...

Keep an eye out for next week, when we post about The Lorax!

Meet the Teacher 2013

Welcome parents! I have decided to put up the information that I will be discussing at the meet the teacher afternoon here on the blog, so that you can access it again if you need it.

- Welcome!
We have had a fantastic start to the year. The kids have settled in very well. I am thrilled to be their teacher for this term.

- Maternity Leave
I am currently almost six months pregnant, so will be going on maternity leave at the end of term one, meaning the children will have a new teacher for the rest of the year. I will do my utmost to ensure that this transition is as smooth as possible for the children, and will pass on every ounce of information about your child's learning, needs and interests as I can. While I am very excited about the arrival of our first child, I will really miss your kids!

- Reading
Reading starts next week. Please send your child's reading book bag to school every day. Your child will bring home a reader to read with you. These books will likely begin by being relatively easy, to help the students regain their confidence when reading. Please try to find a regular time to sit and enjoy this book with your child. They will read the book to you and should not need too much assistance, as they will have read this book that day. If your child is stuck on a word, encourage them to look at the picture, look at the sounds in the word, and try to guess a word that would make sense. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have about reading.

- Letter of the Week
Letter of the week starts next week with the letter L. Students will be encouraged to bring along items that begin with this letter.

- Sight Words Speedway
This programme will begin in week 4. Students will have 5 words to learn at home. When they know these words, they will be tested and will move to the next level. Please note that the students need to consistently know these words - not just 'guess' them correctly.

- Maths and Writing
These programmes have started and are going well.

- Celebrating Seuss
We are having so much fun! Next week we will be looking at the Lorax.

- Blogging
Please don't hesitate to comment on our blog - we love comments!

Please keep in regular contact with me - and I will with you!
I am looking forward to a great partnership with you that will greatly benefit the learning of your child.

Thanks for coming!
